Oscar's Story of Overcoming Adversity at Lakeside

A local Miami news station came out to Lakeside Animal Hospital to tell Oscar the dog’s story. He was abandoned outside our Plantation veterinarian office and has found his fur-ever home.

A Shocking Discovery

It was a regular weekend when a security camera at Lakeside captured a heartbreaking scene. A black sedan pulled up to our parking lot, and the driver took Oscar out of the car, carelessly placing him on the ground before speeding away.

As Oscar chased after the car, he ran onto a busy road, narrowly avoiding being hit by a passing vehicle. One of our staff members was at the right place at the right time, rushing to bring Oscar inside before further harm could come to him.

“I was mortified. I really thought he was going to get killed,” said Estee Froehlich, our Kennel Supervisor, who witnessed the close call. It was an act of cruelty that none of us could comprehend.

Oscar’s abandonment was not just heart-wrenching, but also potentially illegal. We continue to hope for justice as authorities investigate whether the person who left Oscar may face misdemeanor charges for their actions.

A New Beginning

Despite the pain and trauma of being abandoned, Oscar was given a second chance. Frank Flores, moved by the news of Oscar’s plight, came to meet the dog just days after the story aired.

“Something just connected with me when I saw him, and I was like, ‘You know what, I have to meet this dog,’” Frank shared.

It didn’t take long for Oscar to work his magic, and within minutes, Frank was in love. Oscar, the dog who once faced abandonment, now had a chance at a loving home.

Frank was one of many who applied to adopt Oscar, and we couldn’t be happier to see him find his forever family.

"How can anybody leave someone this good and this cute, you know? It just doesn’t make any sense," Frank said. His sentiments echo what we feel: every pet deserves love, care, and a chance at a better life.

The Importance of Compassionate Pet Ownership

Oscar’s story is a stark reminder that animals depend on us for their well-being, and when circumstances change, there are always better options than abandonment.

If you find yourself unable to care for a pet, we encourage you to reach out to us or to local rescues. There are many ways to get the help your pet needs without resorting to cruelty.

At Lakeside Animal Hospital, we’re committed to ensuring that pets in our care find safe, loving homes, just like Oscar.

While we celebrate Oscar’s happy ending, we also hope that his story sheds light on the importance of responsible pet ownership and compassion for all animals.

Let’s work together to prevent abandonment and give more pets the chance to thrive in loving homes.
